CDFA Awards... Red Carpet Favorites

The 2012 CDFA awards really showcased and awarded some amazing talents. Jason Altuzarra, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen and Tabitha Simmons all took home awards. Although my personal favorite (Marc Jacobs) didn't receive an honorary mention, Seth Meyers made me keel over laughing when he wore the same dress Jacobs did to the Met. Although the awards were fun, the red carpet may have been my favorite part of the night! Here are my favorites:

Ashley and Mary-Kate in The Row
Jessica Chastain in Prabal Gurung
Anna Wintour in Marc Jacobs
Karen Elson and Tabitha Simmons both in Proenza Schouler
Harley Viera-Newton wearing Jen Kao
Candice Swanepoel in Valentino

Style Profile: Stephanie

Hello blogosphere! No, I didn't forget about you, I just had a little hiatus so I could do some school things to make sure that I have it together before prom/graduation. Today's style profile is all about Stephanie, a fellow Canadian who has a passion for fashion. She loves trance music and resides in Edmonton (my old hometown! miss you EDM!) Her style is totally amazing and I definitely look to see what she's wearing to help influence my own style. Here's the profile:

1) Do you have any style icons?
My style icons are Miley Cyrus, Lauren Conrad, and Olivia Lopez.

2) Favorite stores?
My favorite stores to shop at are Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, Zara, Aritzia, and American Apparel. I also love going thrift shopping at Salvation Army and Value Village, and other random vintage shops.

3) Current favorites on your iPod?
I am currently obsessed with Dirty Gold. I can't get their EP "Roar" off of replay. My favorite song from them would have to be California Sunrise because it brings me back memories of Cali and also makes me hope for the future because I really want to move there one day.

4) Favorite fashion decade?
My favorite fashion decade would have to be the 1960s because it was during this time when women started expressing their femality through what they wore.

5) Never caught in...
Never caught in crocs! Even though my dad owns a pair I still dislike them.

6) Dream job?
My dream job would be to work at a fashion office in downtown LA, such as Nasty Gal. It would be a dream come true if I could ever work there or even intern there. I would love to be a model, or have a marketing job there.

7) Guilty pleasure?
My guilty pleasure would definitely be wearing tops or dresses that show a lot of back or have a back design.

How do you think people in Edmonton dress compared to other cities you've been too?
I wish that people in Edmonton could express their style more, compared to what I've seen in cities in the US. When I was in the US, many people there actually wore whatever they wanted but I feel that in Edmonton, we restrict ourselves to certain items of clothing. I think that if I lived in a different city such as Toronto or New York, I would not be afraid to express myself as much because people there are more open to fashion.

If you had to describe your style in one word, what would that be?
I don't think I really have a word to describe my style because I try to not stick to a certain style, but experiment and just wear whatever I like!

Fashion is obviously something you are very passionate about. Do you plan on pursuing a career in fashion?
Yes, I would love to pursue a career in fashion for the rest of my life, whether it be a small side job in retail or a full time job in the fashion industry.

What are your favorite spring trends?
My favorite spring trends would definitely have to be pastel colors, especially mint. I need to stop purchasing so much mint clothing! Another spring trend I love is colorblocking, whether it be a colorblocked skirt or actually colorblocking my whole outfit. I also love how much color has influenced spring trends, from pastel to neon to bold colors, spring/summer 2012 is all about color!

One True Love

Everyone has that one thing that they fall in love with. Truly, madly, deeply. I'm not talking about your significant other or your friends or even your family. It's a deeper love affair, something that owns your heart and mind and until you have it with you, things won't be the same. Meet the Wildfox X Jeffrey Campbell Ballet Platform:

It's the perfect mix of naughty and nice; with the ballet inspired color and ties, but the platform to cause controversy and add height. The shoes first caught my eye a few months earlier and I all I could do was leave my jaw dropped and thank God for these beautiful shoes. I've always had an obsession with ballerinas, and being 5'7, they would give me the height I dream of (5'11 is a pipe dream for little ol me...) They were on pre sale but since I quit my job once the new year began, I have had a lack of money. Over time though, the obsession and love has only deepened. Although they're currently sold out at Solestruck, I await the day the e-mail comes to my phone saying "We've restocked the Ballet Platforms!" I will scurry so fast to their site and order these perfectly crafted, magnificent, outstanding by how great they are, platforms.

Oh... Wow

As a girl living in a small town, I always look for style inspiration from celebrities, socialites, actors, musicians - basically anyone who doesn't live in this town. The day I started watching Skins was a day my style was changed for the better. The first season revolves around a group of friends: Tony, Sid, Michelle, Jal, Chris, Maxxie, Anwar, and Cassie. They all have a different way they dress, such as Tony is a prep; Chris is all over the place; and Michelle is kind of slutty. The character who's apparel peaked my interest was Cassie. An eating disordered, blonde girl who mixed feminine apparel with eccentric pieces, always looking fabulous. The perfect way to describe Cassie is quirky. Here are a few of my favorite looks she pulled off during the two seasons she was on:

Cannes Catwalk

Fashion is always on the move and currently it is in France. Actors, celebrities, socialites, and every well dressed person you could think of has been flaunting their style since Wednesday night. The beautiful clothing and jewelry (Chopard is a name no one will forget anytime soon!) has been making my jaw drop each day as more beautiful photos surface on the internet. My overall favorite so far has been Fan BingBing. Her beautiful dresses have made me green with envy. Here are my picks for best dressed thus far:

Frieda Pinto in Michael Angel

Dolores Chaplin in Lanvin

Fan BingBing in floral
Fan BingBing in Elie Saab Haute Couture (my absoloute favorite!)

Empire State of Mind

Yesterday I returned from my four day trip to New York City. It was as magical as I had always dreamed it would be. From the endless beauty and foliage of Central Park; with great views, attractions, and the best tour guide Sylvester, it was a great success. Visiting MoMa and being face to face with the work of Diego Rivera blew my mind. Eating at John's Pizzeria and the Stardust Diner, while always finding time to grab a hot dog from a vendor... all delicious food. The shopping was wonderful. The people were beautiful. I don't think it could have been any better because it was my dreams come alive.
